Netflix Raises Suspense by Moving a Real-Life Human Into a Billboard
Netflix has taken the phrase “home sweet home” to new heights. To promote its latest thriller, the streamer has moved someone into a glass-fronted living room overlooking Sunset Boulevard, where he spends his days reading and eating cereal. The catch? That piece of real estate is a billboard.

The unusual installation is part of the marketing campaign for The Last House, a sci-fi thriller directed by Louis Leterrier. Perched roughly 30 feet above the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Selma Avenue in West Hollywood, the billboard resembles a compact suburban home, complete with a couch, bookshelves, plants, curtains, and air conditioning. Behind its large front window sits a performer living out a routine that looks deceptively ordinary.
The stunt echoes the movie’s central mystery. The Last House stars Greta Lee and Wagner Moura as parents trapped inside their home with their children while an unknown danger lurks outside. As their supplies begin to dwindle, they struggle to survive without understanding why they have been sealed inside. The billboard recreates that discomfiting premise on a smaller scale, inviting passersby to imagine what it might be like to watch everyday life unravel inside a confined space.

While the performer isn’t facing the same dangers as the film’s characters, Netflix has encouraged him to carry on as normally as possible during his three-day stay. He’s been spotted eating breakfast, reading books, using binoculars to survey the Sunset Strip, and chatting with pedestrians below using handwritten messages on a whiteboard.
The campaign has quickly become a roadside attraction, drawing crowds who stop to photograph the suspended living room and the man inside it.
