Italian Film Festival
The Studio Italia Cinema Italiano Festival once again kicks off 'The Italian Season' in Auckland, culminating in the 'Festival Italiano' - New Zealand's largest, and immensely popular Italian street event.
Established in 2015 by New Zealand’s favourite Italian, filmmaker and actor, Paolo Rotondo the Studio Italia Cinema Italiano Festival has continued to grow every year, and has been enthusiastically welcomed by audiences all over the country. So much so that it now screens in 15 locations across 7 months of the year.
Paolo, as the Festival’s Artistic Director has carefully selected films to satisfy lovers of all things Italian as well as serious film buffs, with a broad range of new comedies, engrossing dramas, romantic stories, crime thrillers, festival hits, documentaries and this year two Italian Classic Masterpieces by renowned filmmaker Federico Fellini.
You can get an earful of loud and dramatic as only the Italians can do in There’s No Place Like Home and My Big Gay Italian Wedding and wanderlust romance set in the most beautiful parts of Italy Blessed Madness, Naples in Veils, Quanto Basta. There are also darker tales of crime, corruption and murder in Italy’s underbelly Dogman, The Girl in the Fog, The Last Prosecco. And you really must see Fellini’s 8 ½ and Roma on the big screen. They are breathtakingly sumptuous.
